Mpix also is planning to offer a new trend in eCommerce sites, what it will call "White Label Shipping," in which items are shipped discretely to the photographer or the customer without any branded packaging. Prints seem as if they came directly from the photographer, ensuring a comfort factor that the photographer was involved throughout the entire process. This replaces the "you get a disc of images" method in which digital images are burned to CDs or DVDs for clients, who can hand out copies to their friends or associates to make their own prints, thereby taking the control, and profit, away from the photographer.

Possibilities
The digital photographer can learn and master almost anything in modern photography. That's what makes digital so promising and, at the same time, so overwhelming. The question becomes how much time do you want to spend perfecting a task when there are companies that have already perfected it for you.

"That's kind of the wager that we make with photographers," says Eric Ellis, CEO of SimplePhoto. "The wager is that we'll set you up for free, and give you a 30-day free trial, during which we have 30 days to prove to you that you chose the right place; and nine times out of 10, photographers stay after their 30-day trial. They say, 'Wow, I've got some guys and gals who really understand how to translate my sales to the web and, my goodness, my cart is looking better than it has ever looked before; heck, yeah, I'm going to stay with SimplePhoto."

"I think the number-one reason for photographers to use online services," concludes Dellasega, "is that it allows them to spend more time behind the camera, doing what they love to do, working with the creative aspect of their photography versus having to spend time with postproduction activity. And the quality of the prints will be superior just because we have experience with thousands and thousands of photographers and very high levels of pro-quality expectations."
