Canvas On Demand's premounted prints can be shipped directly to customers.

ExpressDigital is known for producing a variety of workflow solutions for photographers as well as labs, including its Darkroom daily routine image-management program, PhotoReflect.com, for online image sales and print output; Labtricity for complete customized control over sending orders electronically to a series of professional lab offerings; and ExpressDigital Templates for compositing event-specific images into print-ready forms like calendars, magazine covers and baseball cards. All of the above are integrated completely for a soup-to-nuts eCommerce setup.

PhotoReflect.com provides a selection of storefronts for many types of photography, including portrait, wedding, event, sports and schools. There's online image hosting, credit card and check processing, discount pricing options, included photographer listing in the "Find A Photographer" search, and a built-in connection to pro labs through Labtricity for a unified workflow from the upload of the image to the customer's final print.

ExpressDigital collects funds for you, taking a maximum 15 percent eCommerce transaction fee from each order along with a three-percent fee for payment processing. Profits are remitted to you every two weeks, and fees automatically decrease as your transaction volume increases. The Labtricity program steps you through the print possibilities of a variety of labs. Labs include listings for ratings, and an "About Us" section gives photographers a feel for who they're dealing with. PhotoReflect is also available as a plug-in for Apple Aperture 1.5.

Premounted prints are a popular way for photographers to gain in profits, and it's Canvas On Demand's specialty. "Local labs, for the most part, don't do a lot of canvas," says Tom Lotrecchiano of Canvas On Demand. "There are idiosyncrasies with printing on canvas and stretching. Our product is very consistent, with colors that look great on canvas. It's all we do. Our subsequent turnaround time is quick; we turn around every professional order in two to three days. We know how to ship them so they get there in good shape, and I think one of the main benefits is being able to offer any size. We'll custom-make canvases at any size from 8x8 to 60x100 inches."

Adds Lotrecchiano, "With a login to their account, pro prices are 25 percent lower than our retail prices, so they get a discount all of the time. It allows them to keep track of their orders. They can charge for third-party shipping so it looks like it's coming from them. It's kind of an OEM service. It has their name as the return address and their name on the receipt so they can ship directly to the client without the client knowing it's Canvas On Demand. It keeps us out of the equation, so it protects the client from their customers wanting to come directly to Canvas On Demand in the future."
