Sponsored by Microsoft and Epson for the second year in a row, the Digital Photo Pro Emerging Professional Photo Competition was an exciting opportunity for students and up-and-coming photographers to be discovered. The competition was open to students currently enrolled at an accredited college or university and enrolled in a photography course, or professional photographers with no more than three years of professional experience.
“We wanted this competition to be about emerging photographers. There’s so much fresh talent out there, and this is a way for us to find it,” commented Christopher Robinson, Editor of Digital Photo Pro. “And the entries this year definitely raised the bar and surpassed our expectations.”
Braden Summers, the Grand Prize Winner, won $10,000 to launch his career, along with an Epson Stylus Pro Printer, a Dell computer system with Microsoft Windows Vista, and, most exciting, publication of his winning photo in the March/April 2008 issue of Digital Photo Pro. “Braden’s photo had a great concept and a beautiful execution,” noted Robinson.
This year’s competition had the same three categories of submission: Fine Art, Fashion/Beauty and Photojournalism. In the Fine Art category, the First Place Prize went to Ryan Schude. Hans Eric Olson, Jr., won First Place in the Photojournalism category. And Kenneth P. Volpe won First Place in the Fashion/Beauty category. These three photos were also published in the March/April 2008 issue of Digital Photo Pro, and, along with some fantastic finalists’ photos, they are displayed in this gallery.
Congratulations to all.
