At the Indy Car Championships, in Las Vegas, I was with my ESPN colleague, Pit Reporter Rick DeBruel, as I photographed him interviewing Indy Driver, Dan Wheldon before the race. Dan had won the Indy 500 and was in the lead for points to win the $5,000,000 Championship that day. He was excited and confident during this interview. He was friendly and actually thanked me for taking his pre-race photos. A few minutes later he climbed into his car to drive, then a few laps into the race was killed in the most horrific accident in Indy Car history.
