Full HD Video Capture
The NEX-7 also provides video with the new AVCHD Progressive v2.0 format, delivering 1920x1080 full HD video at 60p and 60i, and 1080/24p for a cinematic look. There's also 1440x1080 and 640x480 MP4 video at 30p, when smaller files are desired. The built-in stereo microphone provides Dolby Digital stereo sound.
Fast Shooting Speed
The camera can shoot 24.3-megapixel images at 10 fps (with focus and exposure locked at the first exposure). An electronic first shutter curtain and the absence of an SLR mirror make for quick shutter response. The NEX-7 can correct chromatic aberration, vignetting and distortion in-camera, and there's an ultrasonic sensor-dust removal system.
Go Manual Or Full Auto
If you want to focus manually, the NEX-7 allows for "peaking," which outlines in-focus edges in your choice of white, red or yellow, making it easy to see just where focus is in the image.
If you want to go automatic, the iAUTO mode uses Scene Recognition, Face Detection and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to automatically provide the best shot.
Intuitive Mode Navigation
A Tri-Nav manual control system gives you direct access to three settings at a time via three control dials. Twin dials atop the camera complement the three buttons and a dial setup on the back.
Lenses And Accessories
The NEX-7 can use all Sony E-mount lenses. With the LA-EA2 adapter, you can attach Sony A-mount DSLR lenses as well. The LA-EA2 has a translucent mirror and the phase-detection AF system found in the Sony DSLR cameras. The camera has a built-in flash unit and a hot-shoe for other accessories. There's also an adapter that provides a PC terminal for studio flashes.
