New Tools Of The Trade

This Article Features Photo Zoom

Photo Books
AsukaBook now offers a total of six different book lines, as well as a new size and faster turnaround times. The new Book Bound EXD line lets you custom design a slide-in box for the book with images, text and more. Inside the box is the printed hard cover and matching printed book jacket with customizable inside flaps. The new landscape/horizontal format size measures 8x5.5 inches and is available for all of the lines. Turnaround time has been shortened from four weeks to three. Also, when an album order is placed online, you can use AB AlbumOnline, a free service that lets you link to a digital version of the album’s final design for previewing with customers before the printed book arrives. Mobile Studio
Make your location shoots more time- and cost-efficient using the Coyote from shootdigital. A fully equipped mobile production studio, the Coyote has the latest in digital imaging capture equipment and software, lighting, grip and power to turn any location into a state-of-the-art studio. The Coyote will transport your crew to and from location, with enough space inside for you to comfortably edit, process and print while still out on the job. It’s also staffed with an experienced Operator to keep your production running smoothly. Estimated Street Price: Varies. Contact: shootdigital, (212) 353-3330, www.shootdigital.com/coyote.

Lens Support
Pan your heavy telephoto lens smoothly using the CB Gimbal from Custom Brackets. A true roller-bearing design allows for easy panning and tilting. The device has separate drag adjustment and lock for both horizontal and vertical movement of lenses using soft rubber-coated knobs. It also can be used as a panoramic head with 360-degree markings for use with wide-angle lenses. A built-in bubble level makes panning more accurate when you’re tracking wildlife and other moving objects. Estimated Street Price: $579. Contact: Custom Brackets, (800) 530-2289, www.custombrackets.com.

Flash System

The Multiblitz PROFILUX-Plus compact flash system units deliver more than 3,000 exposures on battery power alone. They can be operated on the power grid or on location with PROBAC rechargeable accus. When power-operated, True Multi Voltage Technology covers a range from 100-260V. This ensures performance without any loss, even with grid-caused voltage fluctuation, and provides protection from voltage spikes. Other features include infinite output control via seven ƒ-stops of seamless illumination control, flash duration from 1⁄3000 of a second and recycle times as fast as 0.2 seconds. It’s available in 200Ws, 400Ws and 600Ws performance classes. Estimated Street Price: Starts at $1,400. Contact: RTS, (631) 242-6801, www.rtsphoto.com.
