New Tools Of The Trade

Premium Filters
Designed for use with high-performance optics, Rodenstock High-Resolution Digital filters use high-transmission glass, which provides a cleaner path of visible light and reduces ultraviolet rays below 400 nm. The glass is thin, reducing aberrations. The filters use five layers of coating to prevent abrasions, resist water and reduce internal reflection. Brass rings help ensure optical alignment of the filter to the lens, and safety features, such as a sufficient amount of threads for lens cap attachment, enhance the construction and design. A thin filter ring is ideal for full-frame shooting, without vignetting, when using wide-angle lenses. Estimated Street Price: $69 to $299. Contact: Direct Source Marketing, www.dsmww.com.

High-Definition Screen
The EIZO FlexScan HD2441W monitor features 1920 x 1200 native resolution, a 3000:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 brightness, 178-degree viewing angles and is ready to connect to computers or a video source with dual PC and HDMI ports. An integrated circuit developed by EIZO produces sharp, clean images on the 24.1-inch screen, and the sound for all connected devices can be routed through a single set of speakers. Two HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connectors are provided for connecting to the latest HD equipment. So instead of using multiple wires, one slim cable is used that supports both audio and video signals up to 1920 x 1080. A digital DVI-D and an analog D-sub connector are also included, allowing two computers to be connected at the same time. Estimated Street Price: $1,989. Contact: EIZO, (914) 347-3300, www.eizo.com.

Tough Case
Transport valuable equipment safely in the new iM2875 Storm Case from Hardigg. Measuring 22.5x21.1x11.5 inches, the case is made of virtually indestructible HPX resin. A Vortex valve automatically adjusts air pressure without letting in water or dust. Six unbreakable latches and two molded-in hasps for attaching locks provide security, while the in-line, polyurethane wheels make the case easy to move around. Inside, multilayered foam holds the contents in place and can be easily modified to fit specific cameras, lenses or accessories. Padded dividers or custom-cut foam are also available via special order. Estimated Street Price: TBA. Contact: Hardigg Cases, (800) 542-7344, www.hardigg.com.

Power Brush
Save some time in the editing room using Digital Film Tools Power Stroke 1.0, a gesture-based, interactive application that allows you to make targeted image adjustments quickly. With just a few brushstrokes, an area of an image is isolated with changes made to that region only. Strokes can be assigned for multiple corrections and effects, including color correction, recoloring or desaturation, black-and-white, blur and fill light. The Adjust controls manipulate the color of the image in the area defined by a stroke. Multicolored gradients are applied to strokes and colorize according to the image's brightness values. Hue, saturation, brightness, contrast, gamma and more all can be adjusted. Estimated Street Price: $120. Contact: Digital Film Tools, (818) 761-6577, www.digitalfilmtools.com.
