Next Nex
For some pros, producing video has become just as important as taking stills. The Sony NEX-VG20 brings DSLR-like functionality to camcorder shooting by allowing you to change lenses. This is the second generation of Sony's Handycam interchangeable-lens series, and it sports a bigger sensor, stronger audio capabilities and AVCHD 2.0 HD video support. The 16.1-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor is roughly 20 times the surface area of that found in a standard camcorder. It captures in 1080 at up to 24 MB/s with 24p, 30p and 60p frame-rate options. With RAW still-shooting capability, the camcorder is a hybrid of sorts. The VG20 is compatible with the Sony E-mount series of lenses. Estimated Street Price: $2,199 (with E 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens). Contact: Sony, (877) 865-7669, www.sonystyle.com.

Carbon Support
With their distinctive red footpads and retractable spikes, Sachtler has a long reputation for building high-quality tripods that provide a strong platform for your camera and are easy to set up. The Sachtler Telescopic TT 75/2 CF is a lightweight carbon-fiber tripod well-suited for use with an HD-video DSLR. Varying leg angles can be positioned and adjusted quickly. With a weight of just 5.1 pounds, the compact tripod is ideal when you're on the move from one assignment to the next. Height ranges from 10.6 inches to 67.3 inches. It comes in a kit with a Sachtler FSB 4, Cine DSLR and FSB 6 or FSB 8 fluid head. List Price: TBA. Contact: Sachtler, (845) 268-0100, www.sachtler.us.

Mac Companion
The Iomega Mac Companion Hard Drive is a compact external storage unit designed, both aesthetically and physically, to fit on the base below the screen of your iMac or display. With a silver and black exterior, the 7,200 rpm drive comes in capacities of 2 TB and 3 TB. It has two FireWire 800 interfaces and a two-port USB 2.0 hub for connecting a USB printer and your iPhone, or another iOS device, simultaneously. There's also a 2.1-amp, high-powered USB port for quickly charging your iPad. A front-panel capacity indicator lights up as the drive becomes full. Bundled Iomega Protection Suite software is included (via download). List Price: $195 (2 TB); $295 (3 TB). Contact: Iomega, www.iomega.com.

High-Def Tablet
Wacom tablets give you a more intuitive way of working with images, especially when doing detailed editing. The latest addition is the Wacom Cintiq 24HD, which has an airy 24-inch, high-definition (1920x1200) widescreen display so that no detail will go unnoticed. With 2,048 levels of pressure, the pen allows you to apply as much or as little pressure as needed and is designed to give the same feel as that of a traditional brush or pen. The newly designed stand lets you adjust the incline and height of the tablet until you find the most comfortable working position. It even can extend over the edge of the desk to float just above your lap. Estimated Street Price: $2,499. Contact: Wacom, (800) 922-6613, www.wacom.com.

Solid Drive
Having a secure backup and data-protection system for your imaging work is crucial. The 12-bay Drobo B1200i takes an automated, application-driven approach to storage, providing optimal data protection, capacity planning and application performance. Automated BeyondRAID technology provides easy and reliable data protection without you having to become an expert in storage and configuration. Smart data-aware tiering solves performance-tuning issues, and you can incrementally add SSD drives in the same box and in the same storage pool as traditional media. Drobo adapts in real time to changes in application workload, without you having to make adjustments. Estimated Street Price: Starts at less than $10,000.
