The Studio Neat Glif and Glif+ is both a multi-angle tabletop tripod and an industry-standard 1⁄4"-20 tripod thread for iPhone 4/4S/5 phones. (The Serif is an extra-secure mount that stores within the Glif when not in use.) List Price: $20 (Glif); $30 (Glif+).

Weather Sealing
The Hitcase and Hitcase PRO with wide-angle lens will convert your smartphone into a GoPro-like action cam. The waterproof, shockproof and dustproof hard cases are rated for immersion in depths down to 33 feet for as long as 30 minutes. There are three optional mount systems available: the versatile StickR mount, the suction-cup SuckR for smooth surfaces and windows, and the ChestR wearable mount. The Hitcases are available for the iPhone 4/4S, with a version for the iPhone 5 on the way. There's also a free Hitcase Vidometer app that will effectively double the field of view of the Hitcase Pro (which also includes the StickR Mount). List Price: $89 (Hitcase); $129 (Hitcase Pro); $24 (StickR Mount); $49 (SuckR Mount), $49 (ChestR Mount).

Watershot Case
Watershot, Inc. makes a dedicated submersible housing to protect your iPhone 4/4S (with iPhone 5 planned) from drowning down to 130 feet of depth. A free Watershot App gives access to camera features through a customized exterior button. Watershot also offers external accessories, including an Olympus fisheye converter, red and magenta filters, a Buoyant Lanyard that will float the housing and iPhone to the surface, and a Pro Mount that will allow you to affix GoPro-compatible accessories and mounts to the Watershot casing. List Price: $99 (Watershot for iPhone); $15 each (Pro Mount, Buoyant Lanyard); $34 each (Magenta Filter, Red Filter); $149 (Olympus FCON-T01 Lens Kit).

RØDE iXY Stereo Mic
Audio That Isn't Terrible
Whether capturing ambient sound or recording notes or interviews, audio is a concern with the limited abilities of your phone's microphone, and these mics are also useful for turning your iPad or iPhone into an external audio recorder for DSLR video capture.

RØDE makes highly regarded microphone solutions for camcorders and DSLRs, and they also have introduced the iXY stereo mic for iPhones and iPads. With professional-level audio resolution at up to 24-bit/96 kHz, there are actually two mics configured at a 45º X/Y setup for a natural stereo feel to captured audio. The mic also works with the RØDE Rec application for editing sound right on your iOS device. List Price: $199 (iXY); $5.99 (RØDE Rec).

Compatible with the iPhone 4/4S and iPads, Tascam's iM2X offers a similar X/Y mic setup, only the mics can be rotated for finding the best audio pickup pattern. The Tascam iM2, on the other hand, includes two adjustable mics that have been spaced apart in an A-B setup for a slight delay in pickup much like our ears, which results in more authentic-sounding stereo. The USB input lets you charge your phone while using the mic, and both models capture CD-quality audio at 44.1 kHz/16-bit linear PCM. Estimated Street Price: $79 (iM2), $75 (iM2X).
