Patrick Toth
Grand Prize Winner
Patrick Toth
We asked to see your best photos from 2011, and you sure showed us. More than 3,000 images were submitted to our 2nd Annual Photo Of The Year Contest, leaving us with some difficult decisions. From rugged landscapes to wildlife portraits, urban skylines to people shots, the subject matter was broad, and we loved seeing your best photographs from last year.

While picking a winner was tough, we thought the intimate moment Patrick Toth captured at Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve in Idaho deserved the Grand Prize honor.

While setting up camp, he looked over at his kids, who were playing on the rocks. "I happened to glance at them and caught their silhouette at the same time the sun was setting," Toth recalls. "I thought that the place and time were perfect to catch them at play." Toth's prizes include a Sony SLT-A55 DSLR camera, a Gitzo GT2541 carbon-fiber tripod and GH2780QR head, a PNY 8 GB Professional Series SDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card, a Tamrac Evolution 8 Backpack (5788) and a Duggal 16x20 print of his photograph. First Place, Peter Adams
First Place Winner
Peter Adams
When Apple cofounder Steve Jobs passed away, impromptu public tributes broke out at the company's retail stores nationwide. Perhaps none was more touching than at the store just blocks from his home in Palo Alto, Calif. Tributes left on Post-it® notes completely covered the store's front windows, with people sharing memories and paying their respects to the icon.

First Place winner Peter Adams captured the memorial as it grew. "The death of Steve Jobs had a significant impact on those who knew him, admired him from afar, or simply were fans of Apple's products," Adams says. "I knew that the notes couldn't stay up forever so I began to visit the store each day to photograph the evolving scene so that the memorial would be remembered in years to come." Adams takes home a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 carbon-fiber tripod and 496RC2 head, a Tamrac Rally 5 Camera Bag (3445), a PNY 4 GB Professional Series SDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card and a Duggal 16x20 print of his photograph.
