- Artist Statement: The Linn Cove Viaduct on the side of Grandfather Mountain during peak fall foliage. I was able to get up the Blue Ridge Parkway and into the Grandfather Mountain and Rough Ridge area with my good friend Mark VanDyke this year. Mother Nature didn't give us all of the weather conditions we were hoping for, but we were lucky enough to catch a few spots at peak fall foliage while the weather was interesting. The Linn Cove Viaduct is a 1243 foot segmental elevated bridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway that sweeps in an "s" shape along the rugged and rocky perimeter of Grandfather Mountain. An acclaimed engineering feet, it is the most complicated bridge ever built. The 153 pre-cast section of the Parkway is at 4100 feet elevation, and it was the last section of the Parkway to be completed. The view is breathtaking, and the ride is exciting as the bridge appears to be suspended in mid-air. Dave Allen is an internationally published landscape photographer who is based in Hendersonville, NC. His work has been featured around the world in fine art galleries, magazines, books, calendars, and more. Much of Dave Allen's landscape and nature photography is centered around this stunningly beautiful area in the heart the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC.
