Going Deep

With several halls filled with photo equipment it doesn’t come as a surprise that Photokina has an underwater world. (With apologies to Kevin Costner — or is it the other way around?)

This exhibition within and exhibition was surrounded by water tanks with various equipment taking a dive or swim. Some were regular cameras in housings both... Read more

Keeping Your Camera Dry

A while back I was on a rafting trip on the Colorado river. While I had access to a camera with a waterproof housing, the rest of my stuff was tightly sealed in a dry bag. I’m glad it was during the rapids, but for several hours I wish I had brought a smaller dry bag to carry with me.

I’m glad it was during the rapids, but for several hours I wish I had brought a smaller dry bag to carry with me. Camera Armor decided to turn the concept of placing a camera... Read more

Leica at Photokina

It seems at any trade show, when you meet up with a colleague inevitably one of the first questions is “Have you seen anything exciting?” or “What’s the big thing?”

It seems at any trade show, when you meet up with a colleague inevitably one of the first questions is “Have you seen anything exciting?” or “What’s the big thing?” Leica’s announcement of the S2 certainly falls into that category, every time that you looked at their booth it was crowded with people looking to catch... Leica Pradovit D-1200

With all the buzz about the Leica S2 their booth was busy at Photokina. As I wandered around the various displays there was a strange looking 15 foot long rectangular box in the middle of the floor. One end was about 2 feet square and the other end was about 4 feet. it was all black — this was the Leica booth after all.

Camera Armor Defender Line

You paid a lot of money for your SLR camera and they are built very solid, but they still don’t like the bumps and bruises they get when being used. Camera Armor is a company name that really says what their products do.

Camera Armor is a company name that really says what their products do. At Photokina they introduced their Defender line of camera protection. (Armor, Defender — I sense a theme.) This upgrade... LumiQuest at Photokina

It would have been nice to stop by LumiQuest’s booth at the beginning of Photokina (I will explain in a bit).

It would have been nice to stop by LumiQuest’s booth at the beginning of Photokina (I will explain in a bit). LumiQuest introduced the FXtra, any easy to use set of filters for external flash units. Rather than fooling around taping gelatin filters the lens of your flash, the Lumiquest device is a plastic sleeve the allows you to insert precut... Read more

Mirror On the Wall

At Photokina there were many booths displaying digital picture frames, but quiet honestly I have been to shows where there have been more. After awhile they seem to blur because there are so many shapes and sizes but the styling starts to look similar. (No letters please.)

LensPen at Photokina

While the name of this company leaves you with the impression that they only make one product, a quick pass by their Photokina booth tells a different story. While they were showing new product introductions like ScreenKlean for cleaning small (and medium-sized) LCD screens, the biggest attention getting was the SensorKlear Loupe.
