When did you make this photo series?
One initial image was created in July of 2012 specifically for a collaborative effort with other photographers. I then decided to start a series elaborating on that first image in 2013.
What was this project for?
After creating an image I loved for the photography group project that never got off the ground, I decided to create a personal project stemming from that photo in order not to let the photo go to waste.
What is the story behind these images?
The Black Umbrella is truly a classic. In these images I am able to capture its versatility and ability to transform an image of an ordinary character or situation to a grander level.
What equipment did you use?
Canon PowerShot SX20 IS, Nikon D5200, AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR, Adobe Photoshop.
What do you think made this project stand out to the judges?
I think all of the images in my project stand out individually, as a group, and are memorable. I believe anyone would agree that they rank very high in terms of the judging criteria of composition, creativity/originality, and artistic ability.
