Print Story

Inspired by traditional darkroom processes to pursue photography as a profession, Amy Toensing talks about her approach to connecting with subjects. “I’m constantly trying to understand our world,” Toensing explains, “and I do that through culture and people. The thing I love most about my work is that it gives me an excuse to be nosy and connect with people from all different walks of life.”

Speaking on the importance of printmaking in her work, Toensing says, “The print respects and honors the craft of photography like nothing else.” She describes printmaking as “a continuation of what you’ve done in the field … that making of that print is, in and of itself, part of the story.”
