Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 ($899) is another excellent 13-inch inkjet printer with features similar to the Epson P700. You really can’t go wrong with either of these models for high-quality 13-inch-wide photo prints. The Canon PRO-300 has a 9-color Lucia Pro pigment ink system featuring cyan, photo cyan, red, magenta, photo magenta, red, yellow, photo black, matte black, and gray inks plus a chroma optimizer, which enhances glossiness and flattens the print surface to expand color on glossy paper. Like the Epson P700, the Canon PRO-300 has separate nozzles for the photo black and matte black inks so it doesn’t need to switch tanks, which cuts down on ink waste and saves time. Meanwhile, the printer’s new Nozzle Recovery System can detect if a nozzle is clogged and then will automatically compensate with the help of other nozzles so you can continue printing. A new Skew Correction feature uses built-in sensors to automatically fix paper skewing, so your photos won’t print out crooked. Print quality was outstanding for both color and black-and-white images. In particular, the PRO-300 uses a new matte black ink with deeper black density that looks superb on fine art photo paper. While there’s no option for roll paper, the PRO-300 can print up to 13 x 39-inch panoramas if you want to produce banner-size photos. Even with all these feature and options, the Canon PRO-300 is relatively compact for a 13-inch professional printer and is 15 percent smaller than the previous model.
