Epson SureColor P900
For photographers who want to print bigger, the Epson SureColor P900 ($1195) is a solid, 17-inch inkjet printer. Basically, a larger version of the P700, the P900 shares many of that printer’s attributes including Epson’s 10-ink Epson UltraChrome PRO 10 inkset with cyan, light cyan, vivid magenta, vivid light magenta, yellow, gray, light gray, violet, photo black and matte black inks. The Epson P900 also has a 10-channel MicroPiezo AMC printhead with variable ink droplets as small as 1.5 picoliters to produce precise detail. There are dedicated photo black and matte black ink channels, so no switching necessary, and Carbon Black mode for increased Dmax in monochrome prints. And, as expected, print quality is about on par to the P700, which is to say, it’s excellent. Color landscape photo prints were richly hued with copious amounts of detail, even in the shadow areas. Plus, the step up to 17-inch-wide paper made images seem more lifelike. Black-and-whites had excellent contrast and dramatic tones. Along with 17×19-inch cut sheets, you can print roll paper using the included media adaptor for 2- and 3-inch cores. The Epson P900 has similar ease of use features as the P700 including the 4.3-inch touchscreen on top, wireless connectivity, and the interior LED light. The P900 is also 30 percent smaller than Epson’s previous 17-inch printer so it won’t hog up space.
