The George Eastman Museum holds an extraordinary collection of the history of photography and cinema, and now it’s searchable online. Included are more than a quarter-million objects across the Photography, George Eastman and Technology collections, with photos and other items to be added on an ongoing basis. The Moving Image collection will be added soon.
The bricks-and-mortar location of the museum is in Rochester, N.Y., on the estate of Eastman Kodak founder George Eastman. The world’s oldest photography museum houses one of the world’s oldest film archives, holding several million objects across the fields of photography, cinema, and photographic and cinematic technology, plus photographically illustrated books. Visitors to the museum can take in temporary exhibitions, tour the Eastman mansion and gardens, which is a National Historic Landmark, and view films at the Dryden Theatre.
