The 24-megapixel a68, announced in Europe in November, will be available in the U.S. and Canada beginning in April. With many of the same features found in the more expensive a77 II, the a68 offers good value for the dollar at $600 (body only) and $700 (with the DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II lens). Of note is the integration of Sony’s 4D focus system, with 79 AF points for fast and accurate autofocus—even at its maximum 8 fps continuous shooting speed and under low light conditions. For photographers who want to micro manage their settings, the a68 offers 10 customizable buttons like its a7 series siblings. Rounding out the camera’s many capabilities are advanced video options such as XAVC S recording at up to 50 Mbps, audio level meter and controls, continuous AF tracking, and clean HDMI out.
Price: $600 (body only); $700 with 18-55mm kit lens
