Mary Ellen Mark, an influential documentary photographer, passed away Monday, May 25, in New York City at the age of 75.
Born in Elkins Park, Penn., Mark’s numerous books, exhibitions and editorial work brought her worldwide visibility. Her work has been widely published in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, LIFE, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair.
Mark recently received the 2014 Lifetime Achievement in Photography Award from the George Eastman House, as well as the Outstanding Contribution Photography Award from the World Photography Organization, and numerous other awards.
Mark is survived by her husband, documentary filmmaker Martin Bell.
